SEEPEX September trading volume hits monthly high as electricity prices rise

Serbia’s SEEPEX day-ahead market recorded its highest monthly trading volume in September, with average electricity prices rising from August. The month also saw a higher trading high for power as prices increased. Market data show turnover and price levels across day-ahead and intraday sessions.

Turnover reached 579,406.3 MWh, up 5.9% month on month and 26.6% year on year. Average daily volume was 19,313.5 MWh. These figures reflect the scale of activity in the day-ahead market during September.

Pricing moved higher in the day-ahead segment, with the monthly baseload price rising 9.7% to €150.01/MWh. The euro-peak average increased 14.1% to €131.83/MWh. Peak-period electricity stayed cheaper than the full-day average, indicating that the discount during conventional daytime delivery hours persisted despite higher monthly prices.

In intraday trading, the market handled 5,801 MWh at an average price of €181.76/MWh. Intraday volume was equivalent to about 1% of day-ahead turnover, leaving the day-ahead auction as the dominant venue for volumes. The higher intraday average points to a higher cost level for adjusting positions closer to delivery.
