Bosnia and Herzegovina: Gacko TPP begins major overhaul amid strong performance

A major overhaul has commenced at the coal-fired thermal power plant Gacko, following a period of strong production and solid financial results for the company. This was confirmed by Maksim Skoko, director of the Gacko coalmine and thermal power plant (RiTE Gacko).

The overhaul is expected to last 70 days, with the plant planned to be reconnected to the grid by August 2.

The scope of work is extensive. Skoko noted that the plant has never completed such a large volume of repairs in less than 69 days before, making the success of this overhaul within the set timeframe heavily dependent on the condition of key components, particularly the turbine and generator.

The last maintenance of this scale was carried out in 2019. All plant employees are involved in the overhaul process, with additional technical experts brought in to support the effort. The total cost of the capital overhaul, including all spare parts, is estimated to be just under 10 million euros.

Funding will come solely from the company’s own resources or through loans. Skoko also highlighted that repairs to the turbine and generator alone will account for approximately 3.5 million euros of the total cost.
