North Macedonia sees 45% rise in electricity production in October 2025 amid strong domestic supply

In October 2025, total electricity consumption in North Macedonia reached 552,055 MWh, while natural gas consumption totaled 32.7 million cubic meters, coal consumption amounted to 340,268 tons, and petroleum product use stood at 101,913 tons. According to the State Statistical Office, 92.6% of electricity consumption was met by domestic production, and 99.9% of coal consumption was utilized for electricity generation.

Gross electricity production in the country totaled 511,057 MWh, marking a 45.1% increase compared to October 2024. Of this, 208,015 MWh (40.7%) was produced at thermal power plants (+23.9% year-on-year), 101,523 MWh (19.9%) at hydropower plants (+25.5%), 143,030 MWh (27.5%) at CHP plants (+142.4%), and 34,784 MWh (6.8%) by wind farms. Biogas plants contributed 3,516 MWh, while solar power plants (excluding prosumers) generated 20,190 MWh, representing 3.95% of total electricity in October.

Electricity imports decreased to 149,453 MWh from 171,356 MWh in October 2024, while exports rose to 108,455 MWh, compared to 70,189 MWh a year earlier.
