Bosnia and Herzegovina: EPBiH completes major overhaul of Tuzla thermal power plant Unit 4

State-owned power utility EPBiH has completed a comprehensive capital overhaul of Unit 4 at its coal-fired thermal power plant in Tuzla, extending the operational life of one of its key generation units and enhancing its technical performance, reliability, and safety.

The project, valued at 15.3 million euros and financed entirely from EPBiH’s own resources, will contribute to more stable electricity production and a secure energy supply in the coming period.

EPBiH’s Executive Director for Production, Fahrudin Tanović, stated that the overhaul represents an important step in maintaining the availability and safety of the company’s generation capacity. He emphasized EPBiH’s ongoing commitment to reliable production that meets the highest technical and safety standards. Tanović also highlighted the importance of returning the unit to operation at the beginning of the heating season, as it plays a crucial role in providing thermal energy to the cities of Tuzla and Lukavac.

The overhaul included a series of complex technical works, particularly on the generator, as well as the replacement of fresh and reheated steam pipelines. The project was implemented between May and September, fully in line with the planned schedule and required technical standards. Following testing and trial operation, Unit 4 was reconnected to the grid on 1 October. With the overhaul completed, the unit is now ready to utilize all coal output from EPBiH’s mines, especially from the Kreka mine.
