Croatia: Household solar program pauses as 4,100 projects enter evaluation

The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will temporarily pause its public call for household solar installations starting 1 September. The call, which opened on 6 June 2025, has received around 4,100 project submissions and is now undergoing evaluation.

The program supports households in adopting renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing energy self-sufficiency. Strong interest shows that homeowners are taking the energy transition seriously and view rooftop solar as a sound long-term investment. By providing financial assistance, the initiative has made solar installations more accessible to a wider audience.

This round focused on self-consumption solar systems installed on the roofs of existing single-family homes or related outbuildings. Only individuals who own or co-own the property and have their official residence at the address at the time of system commissioning were eligible to apply. Projects had to be installed and commissioned on or after 1 January 2025. Funding can cover up to 50 percent of eligible costs, with a maximum of 600 euros per kW of installed capacity.

Authorities are currently reviewing all submissions. Applicants who meet the criteria and submit complete documentation can expect support from the Fund. Depending on available budget and evaluation results, the call may reopen in the future. Over the past two years, the Fund has co-financed approximately 5,600 household solar systems, helping to lower energy bills and enhance energy independence. Future co-financing programs are planned to continue promoting green energy and accelerate Croatia’s energy transition.
