Rosatom has announced its readiness to offer Serbia a range of nuclear power plant projects, including both small and large capacity options, according to Marija Deuric, director of the Russian state corporation’s office in Serbia.
Speaking at the international scientific forum Energy Transition of the Western Balkans held in Belgrade, Deuric explained that Rosatom is prepared to provide Serbian partners with various solutions. These include small-capacity nuclear power plants using RITM-200 reactors as well as large-scale energy blocks of the latest 3+ generation technology.
She emphasized that Rosatom’s technologies have already demonstrated their reliability and efficiency both within Russia and internationally. The company welcomes Serbia’s plans to enhance its energy system and diversify its energy mix through the introduction of a nuclear program. This initiative is expected to offer a stable, carbon-free source of energy that will support Serbia’s long-term socio-economic development and strengthen its energy independence.
Last week, Rosatom’s General Director, Alexey Likhachev, spoke about the cooperation between Russia and Serbia regarding nuclear power plant construction. His comments followed discussions in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, during which both leaders confirmed their commitment to working together on the potential construction of a nuclear power plant in Serbia.
