Romania: Partial shutdown at Brazi gas plant due to water supply issues

Operations at the Brazi combined-cycle gas power plant were partially suspended on 2 December after two generating units, totaling 569 MW, were taken offline around midday. The plant, operated by OMV Petrom, is experiencing technical issues related to the supply of process water, which is critical for its operation.

A third unit, with a capacity of 263 MW, is scheduled to go offline at midnight, increasing the total number of affected units to three. The disruptions are linked to reduced water flow and restrictions caused by problems in the water distribution network.

OMV Petrom confirmed that the outage was unexpected and resulted from external factors connected to the water system, emphasizing that the company had no control over the situation. The TPP Brazi facility, located in Prahova County, southern Romania, is expected to resume full operation early on 4 December.
