Romania: Helleniq Renewables expands portfolio with 282 MW wind projects

Helleniq Renewables Romania, the local subsidiary of Greek company Helleniq Energy, has acquired two utility-scale projects as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in Romania’s electricity sector.

The acquisitions include a 96 MW ready-to-build wind farm in Galati county, purchased from OX2, which is expected to begin construction soon with commercial operations targeted for 2027, and a 186 MW wind project in Vaslui county paired with a 186 MW/186 MWh battery energy storage system, also at ready-to-build status.

These projects expand Helleniq Renewables Romania’s portfolio, which already includes 211 MW of solar capacity under construction, along with a significant development pipeline. The company aims to accelerate Romania’s energy transition by combining capital investment with international expertise and advanced technologies that generate long-term economic value. According to management, the new assets provide scale and momentum, demonstrating confidence in Romania’s clean energy market and the company’s commitment to decarbonization and economic development.

The Romanian acquisitions are part of a broader 6 GW renewables pipeline across Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria, supporting Helleniq Energy’s goal of reaching 2 GW of installed capacity by 2030. The company continues to explore further opportunities in Romania, positioning itself as a reliable partner for sustainable growth.
