ICGB, the operator of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector (IGB pipeline), will launch two new cross-border capacity routes to improve regional energy security and expand direct transmission access from northern Greece to Ukraine.
The new pathways, Route 2 and Route 3, were developed in cooperation with the transmission system operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. They build on the bundled capacity product introduced under Route 1 within the Vertical Gas Corridor. With these additions, ICGB further strengthens its role as a key link between diversified southern gas supply sources and markets in southeastern Europe, Moldova and Ukraine.
A central objective of the new capacity is to support timely and cost-effective gas injections into Ukraine’s underground storage facilities ahead of the winter season. The capacity will be offered exclusively as monthly products through a single uniform-price auction each month, pending approval by national regulators. ICGB will work closely with its partner operators to ensure secure, efficient and affordable access to gas throughout the corridor.
