Montenegro: Environmental review launched for 100 MW Vraćenovići solar project

Plans for a major solar power project in western Montenegro have moved into a crucial regulatory stage, with environmental documentation now under review by the competent authorities. The Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed receipt of a full environmental impact assessment submitted by developer Agenos Energy.

The proposal foresees the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in the municipality of Nikšić, near the village of Vraćenovići, on a site covering approximately 584,000 square meters.

Project preparation is already well advanced. In 2024, Agenos Energy signed a grid connection agreement with CGES, Montenegro’s transmission system operator, which indicated that the plant could be commissioned around 2028.

If approved and implemented as planned, the Vraćenovići solar park would become one of the largest solar facilities in Montenegro, further strengthening the country’s rapidly growing renewable energy sector.
