The Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx) is preparing to expand Greece’s natural gas trading framework by introducing a new weekend trading product that combines Saturday and Sunday transactions into a single package. Until now, weekend trades have been conducted separately for each day. The new arrangement will align the Greek market more closely with regional practices, where bundled weekend products are already standard.
Testing of the new product will begin immediately, and if successful, HEnEx plans to make it fully operational before the end of the year. The rollout is expected to proceed quickly since no additional regulatory approvals are required.
This initiative represents another milestone in the ongoing development of Greece’s natural gas trading platform, which currently has 39 active market participants. Further enhancements are also being planned, including the introduction of longer-term trading options to strengthen market flexibility and liquidity.
