During the week of December 22, solar photovoltaic energy production rose across key European electricity markets compared to the previous week. After four consecutive weeks of declines, solar output jumped by 48% in Portugal and 21% in Spain. Italy saw an increase of 29%, while France recorded a 23% rise, recovering from the previous week’s drops.
Several markets set new December daily records for photovoltaic generation. In Germany, solar production peaked at 87 GWh on Thursday, December 25. Italy and France followed with 66 GWh and 54 GWh, respectively, on December 28.
Looking ahead to the week of December 29, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts further growth in solar production in Italy and Spain, while Germany is expected to see a decline.
Meanwhile, wind energy production maintained its upward momentum during the week of December 22, increasing across most major European markets compared to the prior week. The Italian market led the gains, rising 80%, marking the largest increase for the second consecutive week. Spain and France followed with increases of 21% and 20%, respectively, also continuing a two-week upward trend. Germany recorded a smaller increase of 15%, reversing the prior week’s decline, whereas Portugal experienced a 12% drop in wind generation.
On December 24, France registered 404 GWh of wind energy output, the highest daily total since late January.
For the week of December 29, AleaSoft forecasts that wind production will rise in Germany and Italy, but decline in Spain, France, and Portugal, AleaSoft reports.
