Albania: ALPEX sees record July trading volume and strong year-on-year growth

The Albanian electricity exchange ALPEX reported that the total volume of electricity traded in the day-ahead market reached 172.7 GWh in July 2025, marking a 27.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 60.8% rise compared to July 2024.

Of the total traded volume, 109 GWh was for the Kosovo bidding zone and 103.3 GWh for the Albania bidding zone. The average market clearing price stood at 127.63 euros/MWh, representing a 15.5% increase compared to June and a 19.2% decrease compared to July 2024. The total value of transactions on ALPEX in July was 44.1 million euros, showing a 64.3% year-on-year growth.

ALPEX was established in October 2020 by the Albanian electricity transmission system operator OST and its Kosovo counterpart KOSTT. It held its first Albanian auction in April 2023 and currently has 36 members across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones.
