CROPEX begins Slovenian day-ahead trading in regional expansion

Croatian electricity exchange CROPEX has started operating in Slovenia’s day-ahead market, extending its activity beyond its domestic bidding zone. Operations began on October 21 under Slovenia’s Multi-NEMO Arrangement and the European Single Day-Ahead Coupling framework. The move comes as competition increases within Europe’s coupled electricity market.

Existing and new CROPEX members can now trade in both the Croatian and Slovenian bidding zones. The launch followed several months of technical, contractual and operational preparations. CROPEX has operated in Croatia for more than a decade.

Its Slovenian entry is a step in the exchange’s regional expansion and gives market participants another route to access the Slovenian wholesale market. CROPEX is also preparing to enter Slovenia’s intraday market through the Single Intraday Coupling project. Across Central and Southeast Europe, power exchanges are increasingly competing across national borders while remaining integrated through European market-coupling mechanisms.
