Construction has officially begun on a new renewable energy facility in southeastern Albania, where Turkish developer Fortis Energy is building a large-scale solar power plant combined with battery storage near the town of Erseke.
The solar park will have an installed capacity of 62 MW, and once fully operational it is expected to generate around 135 GWh of clean electricity per year, significantly strengthening Albania’s power supply with a stable, renewable source.
A central feature of the project is the integrated battery energy storage system, designed to store up to 25 MWh of electricity. This system will make it possible to save surplus solar output and release it when demand is higher or sunlight is limited, thereby improving grid stability and operational flexibility.
The construction permit was granted by Albanian authorities earlier this summer, enabling site works to start shortly thereafter and placing the project firmly on track for delivery.
Fortis Energy is also rapidly expanding its presence across the country, developing a growing pipeline of solar parks near Diber, Shkoder, Fier and Vlore with a combined capacity of several hundred megawatts, underlining its ambition to become a major player in Albania’s renewable energy sector.
