Romania: Electrica reports strong profit growth in first nine months of 2025

Romanian electricity distributor and supplier Electrica posted a net profit of €168 million in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 177% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

At the group level, EBITDA surged 63.1%, rising by €134 million to €346.5 million, up from €212.5 million a year earlier. This growth was driven by solid performance across both the supply and distribution divisions, each contributing positively to the group’s overall expansion.

The most notable improvement came from the supply segment, which turned around from an EBITDA loss of €51 million in the first nine months of 2024 to a positive €61 million in 2025. This turnaround was supported by higher operating revenues of €196 million and an increase in other income, including nearly €50 million in subsidies.

Operating profit also grew substantially, reaching €257.5 million, compared to €125 million in the same period last year.

Electrica CEO Alexandru Chirita emphasized that the group’s financial progress reflects disciplined management and consistent execution across all business units. He noted that the supply division’s improved performance was key to the rebound, while the distribution segment continued to deliver steady value through ongoing investment programs.

Electrica now serves over four million customers, a milestone supported by completed infrastructure upgrades. The company is also advancing its renewable energy and storage projects, aiming to enhance Romania’s long-term energy security and support the country’s transition to cleaner energy systems.
