In the week of August 4, solar photovoltaic energy production increased across all major European electricity markets, continuing the growth trend from the previous week. The German market recorded the largest increase at 36%, followed by a 10% rise in the Italian market. The smallest increase was seen in the French market, at 0.1%, while the Iberian markets registered gains of 1.1% in Portugal and 5.4% in Spain. This marked the second consecutive week of growth in all markets except Portugal, where the rise in production reversed the declines of the previous two weeks.
During the same week, four markets achieved historic records for daily photovoltaic energy production in the month of August. On Monday, August 4, France generated 140 GWh. On Thursday, August 7, Germany produced 393 GWh, and Spain reached 218 GWh. Italy closed the week with 152 GWh on Friday, August 8.
For the week of August 11, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate that solar energy production will rise in the German and Spanish markets but decline in the Italian market.
In the same week of August 4, wind energy production decreased in the main European markets compared to the previous week. Declines in the Italian, German, and Spanish markets ended the positive trend seen a week earlier. Portugal and France continued their downward trend for the second and third consecutive weeks, respectively. The Iberian Peninsula experienced the sharpest falls, with a 60% drop in Portugal and a 45% drop in Spain. The French and Italian markets registered decreases of 24% and 26%, respectively, while Germany had the smallest decline at 14%.
For the week of August 11, forecasts indicate that wind energy production will continue to fall in Germany, Spain, and Italy, but will increase in Portugal and France, AleaSoft reports.
